ARTIST STATEMENT

For over thirty years my work, whether it be poetry, fiction, or art, speaks to how people communicate with one another. I’m a city dweller who notices violence and hatred, as well as beauty and hope. Drawing attention to the poisoning of our drinking water and air, my work also advocates human kindness and care for the plants and animals we share this planet with. My vision is one that comprises poetic colour; passion and compassion rendered visible.

 NEW WORK:

THE DIVING HORSE OF HANLAN’S POINT

Building on my work as a collage artist, my installation The Diving Horse of Hanlan’s Point explores the weird and wonderful clothing optional beach of Hanlan’s Point, Toronto Island. Inspired by William Blake’s “Auguries of Innocence” and its powerful opening line, To see a World in a Grain of Sand… this mixed-media installation which includes over forty pieces ranging in size from 9”x11” to 36”x42”, strives to create openings where people can step into art and explore our infinitely complex, interwoven, hurt and endangered planet.
